ASSISTANT COACHES' PAGE

Week 6

October 3, 1999

Each week, pngfootball.com will interview an assistant coach off the PN-G staff. The assistant coach works very hard week in and week out to prepare the Indians to play on Friday nights. Their hard work and intense preparation are important to PN-G's success. Many times they are the ones who develop close relationships with their football pupils, and their coaching duties put them on the front lines in game preparation.

Many times the assistant coach goes unrecognized in his contribution to Indian football. At pngfootball.com, we appreciate and recognize the work done by the assistant coaches. This is their page.

On the TJ Game

I thought we did a very good job on our pass protection. Their defensive front was pretty physical. We gave Dustin time back there, and if we give him time, he can find our open receiver. I'm proud of the offensive line for giving him time.

I thought the kids were real focused when we came out and more aggressive from the first snap. We weren't waiting for something to happen. They were getting after it from the LC-M game. We were down at halftime against LC-M 10-6. I think that got their attention that we needed to get focused in. I told the kids we needed to play surly from the very beginning. Had it in their heads we weren't going to wait on something to happen.

On the Offensive Line

Strong Tackle Wesley Temple--he was moved this year to strong tackle. He started 9 games last year as quick guard. He's settling in there now getting more comfortable at it. He's really done a good job. His experience on Friday night has helped.

Strong Guard Elliot Adams--Elliot worked hard in the off season to get bigger and stronger. He's done a good job also. He has some quickness about him. With him being a junior, this is his first experience playing on Friday night. He was in a backup roll last year

Center Brent Powers--Brent worked hard in the off season at getting bigger. He was a little thin last year, but put on some weight. He's one of our most consistent blockers. He's a real sharp football player.

Quick Guard David Crochet--David played JV last year. He entered the season as second team quick guard, then when Temple switched to strong tackle he stepped up and took that position. He's about 190 lbs, but he's all Indian. He worked real hard in the summer and he didn't know if he would start or not. I feel confident with him there.

Quick Tackle Blake Hopper--Blake started eleven games last year at quick tackle. he did what he needed in the off season and summer to make him a better football player. Quick tackle is a position where you have to do some finesse blocking, and his experience had helped him out a bunch. It's a very important pass blocking position also. He understands his responsibility on different defensive fronts.

On All the Offensive Linemen

As a unit, it's not just these guys, but the backups do an outstanding job for us at practice. They're just a snap away from being a starter. I coach them just as hard as I do the rest of 'em.

On Lincoln

They are a very aggressive defense. They like to attack you. They like to send their linebackers and little bit; it's not a reading type of defense. They like to bring the heat to us. They're big so we have to use real good technique on our pass and run blocking.
