Coach Burnett Talks About Off-season

May 5, 1999

Our new weight room has increased the strength and size of our football team. I am happy with results of our max increases. We have 8 players that can bench press over 300 pounds and 8 players between 275 and 295 pounds.

We are starting to work on two important phases of the kicking game. The most important one being the punt team. We must avoid problems associated with the mechanics of punting. We are working on snapping, protecting, and punting the football. The kickoff team is another area we are working on because if done properly we can make a big play and if done wrong our opponent has an opportunity to make a big play.

Playing football at PN-G is a great experience for a player. It does not get any better than this. We have a great school, fans, and tradition. the expectations are always high because you never know what team might have that special magic to go all the way. Two state championships were won in the 50s and one in the 70s. It takes some luck and a lot of sacrifice and commitment. I believe in the Indians because I have seen what can happen when a group of young men are committed to be as good as they can be and then that PN-G fan support raises their level of play to the point that they start making things happen and exude confidence.

I guess I need to settle down a little because we do not play for 4 more months. The point I'm trying to make is that this is a great place to coach and play. The reasons for that is because the Indians before us demanded that it be that way.

I will visit the web page again in June. Season ticket information and the Sub-Varsity football schedules will be included.

     Scalp-em!
