Coach Burnett Talks About Summer Activity

June 14, 1999

Summer is a good time to recharge and enjoy outside activities. Coaches do not have to worry about lesson plans or organizing practices. We try to get out and enjoy the water and our families. Players do not have to worry about making good grades and getting to class on time.

While we enjoy our summer we realize that a lot of challenges await us. It is very important for our team to gain strength and conditioning. From what I have seen in the first few weeks of summer, a lot of athletes are dedicated to getting better. I see a lot of players in the weightroom and on the field or track.

I am pleased with the leadership this team has demonstrated. We have had good participation at the two 7 on 7 passing tournaments we have attended. We were tournament champions at the PN-G Tournament on June 5 and at the Baytown Lee Tournament (32 Houston teams involved). We made it to the Semi-Finals. Our next tournament is at Vidor on June 19.

Our football camp is in full swing in the afternoons. We are having a good time despite the heat. We have 50 incoming 4th, 5th, and 6th graders in the camp and it is always a pleasure to work with these young people.

Upcoming events include the McNeese State University Football Camp and the Texas High School Coaches Association Coaching School. The McNeese Football Camp takes place in Lake Charles, July 11-14. It is a great football camp and a lot of our players attend each summer. Coaching school takes place in Fort Worth, July 26-28. We look forward to exchanging stories and information at coaching school.

Remember we are all alike; we have eyes, ears, arms, legs, and a head. THE DIFFERENCE IS THE HEART.

     Always be faithful!
