| Coach Burnett Talks About Week 10 October 31, 1999 Vidor GameThe Vidor game was a big game because we needed to win to get in the playoffs. We wanted to go into the Nederland game without that additional burden of having to make the playoffs, and to win that game gave us the opportunity to play Nederland for a share of the district championship. That was a hostile environment over there. Vidor was plenty excited. Their stands were packed, and they made a lot of noise--brought noisemakers and all. Though the environment was rough, we took care of business and we won. I'm real proud of the kids and the way they responded. Vidor was a very game football team. If they had won that game they had a shot at the playoffs. I was proud of the coaching staff and the players how we honed in on taking care of business. We went into that game knowing we controlled our own destiny, and offensively and defensively we did what we had to to. We're happy to be in the playoffs. On Nederland This is going to be a real fun game for the kids to be a part of. We anticipate 13,000+ people at Indian Stadium Friday night. We hold 12,500, but we're opening up a standing room only section. It's going to be a big game any young kid to be involved in. It's a great opportunity for kids to be involved in a big regular season game with a district title on the line. Nederland has an outstanding football team. Coach Neumann and his staff do a fine job. They have quickness on both sides of the ball. They're winning games offensively be execution--crisp, sharp execution. Defensively they change defenses every down, running people through gaps. They play with a lot of energy. Traditionally these Nederland--PN-G games are big. Both teams are in position for a district championship. A lot of important things are going to be determined on the outcome of this game. We approach the game from the standpoint of doing what we do best. We need to keep the kids from getting too excited during the week, and focus on the game plan. Come Friday night, we know they'll be excited...the game will take care of that itself. Injuries Jonathan Lumbley, who left the field in Vidor in an ambulance, is probable. Defensive Leaders Defensive leaders against Vidor were:
