Coach Burnett Talks About Week 13

November 21, 1999

Waller Area Finals Game

I thought a big key to beating Waller was our offense's ability to move the football. We were really clicking. Jeff Bergeron had a big game rushing, and Dustin Long had a big game throwing and rushing, but the things  we were able to keep Waller off balance. They didn't know where we were coming at them next. We knew their offense was physical, and our defense played well.

We felt like going into the game that if we executed like we worked on then we'd be successful. They lined up exactly like we worked on, and we were able to run our offense.

I just feel like we played a complete game. The kids played with a lot of emotion. Everybody--offense, defense, and kicking game. It was just a lot of fun to be back in the Astrodome playing again.

The biggest problem we had was coming out of the Tee Pee before the game. There boys were so fired up they came out of the Tee Pee, and one tripped, and it led to a big wreck.

I was real happy to see the crowd we had for that late game, all that purple up there, and to hear Cherokee in the Dome again. It's been a long time since we heard Cherokee there, and it was nice to hear. It was nice to hear Tippy Durham on the PA system.

On Brazosport

Brazosport is another outstanding football team. They're undefeated, 12-0. They beat C. E. King 30-9 this week, and beat Friendswood 34-17 in Bi-District. Offensively they run a bunch of different sets, and run a bunch of good runningbacks at you. They get in the Deep I, and look to cause a bunch of trouble with their offense. They give the ball to their backs deep, and they find creases and rush for yardage.

Defensively they're making it happen. They line up in a 4-3 defense and sic 'em. For us to be successful we'll have to control them

We expect a heck of a ballgame. We expect a war, and hope we can come out on the right end of the deal.

Injuries

DE Ramon Lopez hurt his knee and is questionable.

Defensive Leaders

     Defensive leaders against Waller were:

OLB Shawn Lang--3 first contacts, 5 assists, 8 tackles, 1 caused fumble, 1 recovered fumble, one deflected pass

OLB Jared Hanks--3 first contacts, 4 assists, 7 tackles, 1 QB pressure
