Coach Burnett Talks About Week 3, 2000

Jacksonville Game

It ended up being an exciting game for the fans. I thought is was two real fine football teams going at it. It was a lot like a playoff atmosphere. Our side was full, and Jacksonville brought a lot of people with them.

The first half was hotly contested. We ended up ahead at halftime 17-14. Jacksonville would score and we'd match them...it was a really well played football game. In the second half, Jacksonville took control of the game with long drives. They did some things to us we didn't react to real well. They mixed up their formations and play action running and throwing. They ended up controlling the ball most of the second half, but the game was still close 21-17 late. They ended up late kicking a field goal, then scored on an interception.

If you keep it in perspective, it was a pre-district game and we're still learning. It really helps us in the future. They were an outstanding football team. We feel like playing against these tough teams help us. I know our kids will bounce back from the loss and get ready for Kingwood.

On Kingwood

Kingwood is a big 5-A team, one of the biggest in the state. They were another ballclub that couldn't find a pre-district game, and we matched up with them. They've lost both their games to two good football teams--The Woodlands, which some polls rank as #1 in the state, and the other is Klein.

They're real similar to us. Offensively they're real sound and they're going to try to out-technique you and not make many mistakes. They're not going to beat themselves. Defensively they play a 2-deep most of the time, and up front they're going to attack.

For us, all we need to do is go out and concentrate on correcting some of the mistakes we made,  learn from the experience with Jacksonville, and put it together and win a game.

Injuries

We came out of the Jacksonville  game healthy.

Defensive Leaders

     Defensive leaders against Jacksonville   were:

OLB Adam LeDoux--8 unassisted tackles, 3 assists

LB Tracye Boudoin--4 unassisted tackles, 9 assists

LB Cody Clark--7 unassisted tackles, 4 assists
